Thanks from Yoshi

For all of you hoping to see Yoshi again in the next video, I’m afraid that with great sadness I have to inform that he is no longer with us.

He moved to Okinawa. His work has taken him there for a month or so and I won’t see him again before I leave. It’s sad, especially as I had to watch his big ol’ face seven thousand times over these last weeks while doing the editing for the video. That editing really made me miss him, and after having sent him the video, I just received this reply from him yesterday:

Hey!! What’s up!??
I finally watched your amazing movie just now and it really made me cry, reminding me of the precious days spent with you. I was really touched….Just let me thank you for creating it.
I miss you a lot!!

That was really sweet. I think I also actually cried a little bit when I finished making that documentary. To most people that ending just marked the end of a 20 minute viewing experience, but I guess to me it meant the completion of hours, days, months of my time, not just the time spent slaving over editing the video, but all the hours that I’d spent just living with the camera in my pocket, all the time I’d spent with Yoshi.

Anyway, thanks from Yoshi, and thanks to Yoshi. I’m sorry that we can’t see each other again.

For now at least.

You are sad so we feel sad too.

Your blog and videos are always in our talk whenever three of four or more of the family get together. We are crap at telling you that but actually you are up and away and writing and filming and I love it and am proud of you. I look forward to peering over your shoulder while you blog in Sri Lanka. Hmmm. I might take it up again too.
